Adult Colouring Books: Yay or Nay?

Thursday, January 21, 2016

The adult colouring book hype has been around for well over a year now, with various types and themes being released every month or so. I bought my first adult colouring books back in July 2014, for me to take on holiday with me. I had heard that they helped to relieve stress and believe me I needed that! I've always been very creative so this was right up my street. So I bought a few cheap ones from WH Smith to try out and that's where my obsession began. Since then I've added to my collection and when I just need that little break from the real world, away from social media, I just take out one of these and before I know it, hours have gone by. Although it's very hard not to go out of the lines, it's actually so calming, colouring in this intricate, beautiful drawings.

The beautiful adult colouring books by Johanna Basford and Millie Marotta are my absolute favourite ones that I own. I just love the drawings inside and I think that helps with the calming effect you have when colouring them in. I feel that the prettier the drawing is beforehand, the end result will be even prettier when coloured in. And let's be real here, how pretty are the covers on Johanna's books?! If that doesn't convince you to purchase them I don't know what will! (A little tip, these books are around £3.99 in Sainsburys, cheaper than anywhere else!!)

So to conclude whether I think adult colouring books are a yay or nay? They are a definite yay! I think they're a perfect present for someone in your life but they're also a good coffee table accessory for your own home.

Have you got any adult colouring books? What's your opinion on them?

  1. I have the Animal Kingdom book by Millie Marotta and it's one of my favourite things. It's so calming and a great escape. I even treated myself to some new colouring pencils to use with it!

  3. Awesome post! I am a big fan of adult colouring books! They are so relaxing, and there are so many types! Who would have thought one day adults would think colouring in was cool again?

    1. I know it's so weird! When you was little you would always think you would never colour again... wrong!
