Lets Talk: The Alternative Travel Project

Friday, November 20, 2015

Today's post as you've guessed judging from the title isn't me rambling on about my favourites of the month, a wishlist or a review. It's the 3rd instalment in my "Lets Talk" series that I started a couple of months ago. Although this most probably sticks out a little amongst my other posts, I created this blog to talk about my interests and what I love and once you read the full post, I hope you understand why I decided to talk about it.

I feel we all need a huge wake up call in what we ourselves our doing to our planet. This beautiful planet we live on won't last forever and we need to take care of it for future generations.  We're always being told about the harm we ourselves are doing to the beautiful planet we live on. It scares us for a while and then we forget about it and get on with our lives. But we shouldn't forget about it and move on, we need to change the way we're treating our planet. Everyday you can change just one thing within your routine that will help save the planet. Can you imagine if someone did something earth friendly everyday, how much kinder we would be being to our planet?

If you follow me on Twitter you will know how much of a role model Stana Katic is to me. She is one of the main characters on the hit US TV show Castle (you should watch it). Alongside her acting job Stana founded the wonderful project called The Alternative Travel Project back in 2010. Stana herself is an avid user of alternative ways of travel such as walking, biking, public transport and this prompted her to start a global initiative inspiring individuals to enjoy car-free travel. ATP is a non profit organisation which is creating a global community to encourage individuals to use alternative travel for social, health and environmental benefits. The project envisions a world in which alternative ways of transport are used in day to day life.

Everyone can join in by picking ONE day a week and make the effort to go car free - whether it's by foot, bus, bike, rail or your unique choice of car-free transportation.

Below are a few videos, in which Stana Katic talks about The Alternative Travel Project:

I wrote this post in the hope that more and more people read about the project and make the effort to go car free for at least one day. I know this project is focused on alternative ways to travel but this could be the start of a journey in which we make little differences to the way we live our lives that benefit the environment in the long run. I really loved writing this post as it's something I'm passionate about and I hope to write about more projects like ATP in the future!

I hope you enjoyed this blog post. Do you use alternative travel?
